Poverty in Italy

 


About 8 millions of Italians are affected by relative poverty, which means that their income is lower than the half of the average salary.

Especially the Italian South is affected by poverty. An actual study made by the institute ISTAT results that about 11,1 % of the Italians are affected by relative poverty, that means that their salary is less than the half of the average salary. About 5,2% of the Italians are affected by absolute poverty, 7,6% of the Italians are threatened by poverty. The study results that nearby one out of five families is threatened by poverty. At the South the poverty is notably bigger, here 23,3 % of the families are considered as poor, especially in Sicily and Calabria.
